An articulation disorder is a type of Speech Sound Disorder in which a person has trouble with the motor movement required to produce specific speech sounds. Children and adults with articulation disorders have trouble producing specific sound(s) and/or producing them clearly.
Common examples of articulation disorders include difficulty producing the ‘r’ sound or producing a slushy ‘s’. In children, articulation disorders can also co-occur with phonological disorders.
